If you’ve ever doubted the power of your mind, check this out…
Twenty-nine people volunteered for a study where they wore surgical casts on their wrists for four weeks. Half of them were told to sit quietly and visualize that they were flexing their immobile wrist for 11 minutes a day, 5 times a week. The other group did nothing.
At the end of the study, scientists found that the wrist muscles of those who did the visualization exercises were 2x as strong as the wrist muscles of the control group. 🤯 Even though all they did was visualize!
Benefits of the Mind-Muscle Connection
Tapping into your “mind-muscle” connection can offer several benefits:
- Improved Form: Visualization can help you perfect your form during workouts, reducing the risk of injury and enhancing your results.
- Increased Body Awareness: Enhances balance, performance, coordination, and even posture.
How to Practice Mindful Muscle Movements
If you want to incorporate more mindful muscle movements into your workouts, try these techniques:
- Lift Slowly: Lift the weight for 2-3 seconds, pause for 1 second, and lower the weight for 2-3 seconds.
- Visualize: Close your eyes and picture your muscles working. Avoid this if you have balance issues or are performing exercises that challenge your balance.
You might be surprised at how much easier it is to get more out of your workout when you shift your focus like this!
